We were overwhelmed by the support that our fans showed to help us launch the first-ever Tutu WALKS for Breast Cancer Awareness. We had a beautiful day and tutus of all colors – but mostly pink of course – were there to enjoy our 1.5 mile walk. Hoboken Mayor Diane Zimmer, her four-legged companion and the Hoboken Police helped us lead the charge. One of the police cars even escorted us with great music to keep the walk moving!

Most importantly, we raised money for the families affected by breast cancer that the Carey Foundation is trying to support. We hope that next year the room is filled with people we helped, and those that helped US get to where we are today. Scroll down to the end to find out where to find more event pictures!

Ever wonder about the business side of The Tutu Project. Well leave it to Wendy Hanson to dig in and ask!

Today we were honored to have been guests on the Business Innovators Blog Talk Radio Show with host Wendy Hanson. We chatted the going “viral”… the good, the bad and the ugly. Following is a list of key technology and social media resources that we use to manage and grow our fan base. Here they are and why we use them! A link to the show will be available shortly!

The Tutu Project’s Key Resources:

Dympol Charitable Checkout (Give & Get with The Tutu Project)

www.CharitableCheckout.com

Allows us to drive donations through their “Give & Get” technology. For example, our fans can give $1 and the technology will deliver a Tutu image for them to use as their Facebook or Desktop photo. They can also deliver other incentives based on the amount they give.

SeeSaw (“See What We Saw” here: http://thetutuproject.sees.aw/)

SeeSaw allows real-time curation of your Twitter content. You can track everything via a hashtag and save what you “Saw”. You can direct traffic to your “Saw” board and share a visual experience of your Twitter universe. It also allows you to have conversations within the board and let others experience it in a single place.

MailChimp (www.mailchimp.com)

Honestly this is like “email for dummies”. It’s SUPER easy to manage and create campaigns with them.

HootSuite (www.HootSuite.com)

Social Network Management. Improves productivity by managing all of your social networks within HootSuite. The dashboard is designed for you and your team to listen, engage and measure all from one simple interface.

Smart Phone (Mobile) Technology

We have partnered with PreferredApp.com to deliver an iPhone app. This is currently under development and will soon allow our fans to download and share postcards through a simple app interface.

Twitter, Facebook and Buffer

While Twitter and Facebook don’t need much of an introduction, we do love Buffer. It allows you to create a queau of tweets or Facebook posts so that you aren’t abusing your fan’s Timelines or Twitter feeds. So if you know you have 5 messages for a single day, you can schedule them to go out throughout the day.

WordPress.com

Website design and hosting which is VERY affordable because you don’t need a programmer to install and manage your website.

We have been working tirelessly to get our books out the door in time for Breast Cancer Awareness month and nothing thrills us more than getting your “thank you’s” and reviews. Today’s favorite…

“Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just received my copy of Ballerina and I’m am so thrilled! The crying has already begun as I page through your beautiful book. And I just love the Roller Coaster pic that was included.”

So we thank all of you, from deep in our hearts for your support. For some, The Tutu Project has become a movement that is inspiring them to leap, laugh and LIVE through some tough times. For others, it’s just a simple reminder that sometimes laughter can lighten a tough day. We hope you’ll comment on this post with more book reviews, and that you will share our project with everyone to help us honor breast cancer awareness month.

Best, Linda

PS: If we could get all the books out at one time, I promise we would. Our volunteer team is working as hard as we can to get them out as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience.

New York – Sept. 20, 2012 (PRWeb.com) – This October the National Football League and its teams will be supporting The Tutu ProjectTM by providing commercial photographer Bob Carey with access to select stadiums around the country to produce new images for The Tutu Project. This includes half-time photo opportunities at the New York Giants game at MetLife Stadium on October 7. Breast cancer advocate Linda Carey will also be included as part of their halftime show so that she can be honored alongside other breast cancer survivors. Details for activities with other teams will be announced, including the Indianapolis Colts and the Arizona Cardinals.

“After seeing The Tutu Project’s inspirational photographs and learning more about the Carey’s efforts to help those who are affected by breast cancer, we knew our teams would want to show support,” said NFL Director of Community Affairs Anna Isaacson. “We are looking forward to launching our fourth annual Crucial Catch campaign this October, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, and we are pleased to be adding a relationship with The Tutu Project to our outreach.”

“I’m honored to have the support of the NFL behind The Tutu Project,” said photographer Bob Carey. “There are a lot of husband and wife teams going through this breast cancer journey, and we are proud to be a symbol for the unity that it takes to get through it. Our goal is to raise funds for the Carey Foundation so that we can directly help the families that need it most”.

The Tutu Project’s mission is to support the fund raising efforts of The Carey Foundation for women with breast cancer. It strives to bring laughter and understanding to a community that has endured far too much. Professional photographer Bob Carey began taking self-portraits in pink tutus as a way to express himself.
“When I saw Bob and Linda’s story on TODAY in May of this year and shared it with the entire Bloomingdale’s family, we instantly wanted to come on board to support The Tutu Project as part of our 2012 Pink Campaign,” said Anne Keating, senior vice president of public relations, special events and corporate philanthropy. “We are excited to offer our shoppers the opportunity to support the Carey’s mission to raise funds for women fighting the disease, all while putting a smile on their face.”

Starting October 1, Bloomingdale’s shoppers will have the opportunity to purchase their own copy of Ballerina at Bloomingdale’s 59th St. and Soho in New York City, as well as on bloomingdales.com. There will also be an exclusive photo of Bob in his pink tutu at the Bloomingdale’s 59th Street flagship in the Pink Book, the retailer’s annual Pink catalog. Bloomingdale’s will be selling exclusive postcards that include three Ballerina images taken exclusively for this fund raiser inside the 59h Street store. Shoppers are invited to check out exclusive in-store exhibits of Bob’s work at the following Bloomingdale’s locations – 59th Street, Aventura, Century City, North Michigan, San Francisco, Soho, and Roosevelt Field. Last but not least, Bob and Linda Carey will be at the 59th Street location for a book signing on October 17th.

Net proceeds of funds raised by The Tutu Project will benefit The Carey Foundation, which plans to donate funds to non-profits that focus on helping women with breast cancer, including Cancercare.org and the Beth Israel Department of Integrative Oncology Fund.

“Bloomingdales approached us about joining their Pink campaign and we where honored”, said Photographer Bob Carey. “We are launching two new Ballerina images at this event and are very proud to represent Bloomingdale’s efforts, and New York City, by putting “Ballerina” on the famous Bloomingdale’s checkered floor in honor of such a great cause. “

Last night we got a call from our friend Kevin who was on a business trip in Seattle and decided to go to the Mariners’ game. Upon his arrival he witnessed a “tutu man” look-a-like, his wife and daughter wearing pink! Kevin approached them and told them that he knew us. The family was apparently super excited, and told him about how much they admired The Tutu Project™ (not that you couldn’t tell from the outfits!). Kevin promised to send this picture to us, so here it is. We also added it to our breast cancer honor wall!

The man in this picture is not officially associated with The Tutu Project

We have to admit that it’s a strange sensation to witness something that we have loved for so long influence others in such a meaningful way. We really never expected that Bob’s images would impact so many families dealing with breast cancer. And we certainly didn’t think that a man could become a symbol for breast cancer! We are humbled, flattered and honored, with all of the love, positive energy and attention from across our country – including Seattle! If you know this man please tell him to “stop in” and visit us here or Facebook page!

Oh, and if you are interested in helping the Carey Foundation fundraise directly, contact us for more information. We’d love to get you “officially” involved.

PS: our lawyers force us to post that caption in the picture. It’s some fancy stuff about trademark protection!

For every breast cancer diagnosis there is a wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt – that has a loved one pulling and praying for their well-being. After just a few months of being a new – uhm, “face” - in breast cancer awareness, we have met so many wonderful people that want to honor a loved one by sharing their story. We’ve heard stories about all types of cancers – its triumphs and so many courageous journeys. They have all touched our hearts. We are especially proud to be an inspiration to the husbands, sons and other men in the lives of the women that are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Some of our readers have helped bring smiles by sending in their creative pictures for our Honor Wall. In recognition of those who have been touched by cancer, we also present these notes and letters in the COMMENTS below. Those labeled as “Facebook posts” are our favorites from Facebook messages or comments. We hope that it encourages everyone to share their story, a joke or journey. Every story and picture has the power to give courage to those touched by this disease. If you think you want to share more than a few short sentences in the COMMENTS below, feel free to contact us to talk about providing a guest blog entry that we can post.

Today Bob and I were ‘shadowed’ by a German television station. We aren’t sure when it will air but it will be the first time that we air in a place that we don’t even speak the language!

It has been a while since we were in Times Square, and watching people’s reactions to Bob has always been a blast, except today was even more special. I had two wonderful ladies come up to me to thank us for our project. Being recognized is new to me since I’ve always been behind the scenes. They had both seen The Tutu Project on the Today Show, and shared that our project made someone special in their lives smile while they too dealt with the news of breast cancer. I’m so happy that our dream of making people smile when they most need it is coming true.

So here are some outtakes from today’s shoot. Hope you enjoy them and don’t mind the spoiler alert! We look forward to sharing some new shots taken from these amazing places in Manhattan very soon!
